How to cancel Descript

Descript is cancelled by downgrading to Free: App Settings → Plan → Change plan → Downgrade to Free. Your projects stay.

Checked in October 2026 against Descript’s own help pages. Descript typically costs about €19 a month (€228 a year).

Cancel on the web

Open App Settings in Descript and go to the Plan tab.
Click Change plan and choose Downgrade to Free.
Pick a reason and click Cancel subscription.

What happens after you cancel

Your paid plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle, then moves to Free. Existing projects remain accessible.

Refunds

Descript doesn't prorate unused time. Plan refunds are available within 48 hours of the invoice date.

Watch out for

Deleting your account doesn't cancel the subscription or trigger a refund — cancel first.
An account with a past-due or failed payment can't change plan until that's fixed.
Once you leave a legacy plan you can't go back to it.

Cheaper than cancelling?

Cancel a pending downgrade from the Plan tab before the cycle ends if you change your mind.

Make sure the charge really stops

Track Descript in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
