How to cancel DigitalOcean
DigitalOcean billing stops when you deactivate the account under My Account → Deactivate account. Destroy your resources first and settle any outstanding bills.
Checked in October 2026 against DigitalOcean’s own help pages. DigitalOcean typically costs about €6 a month (€72 a year).
Cancel on the web
- Destroy the resources you don't want — see the docs for Droplets, Volumes and the rest.
- Delete any teams you solely own (or hand them to another owner), and resolve outstanding bills.
- Open the profile icon → My Account, scroll to Deactivate account and click Deactivate, then Deactivate Account.
Open DigitalOcean Docs: Deactivate accounts ↗
What happens after you cancel
Deactivation stops billing and blocks new resource creation. You can reactivate later with your history intact, or purge the account's data permanently.
Watch out for
- Purging removes email and billing information for good — you couldn't reactivate that account.
- A team where you're the only owner but that has other members must be deleted or handed over first; a team with only you is deleted automatically.
Make sure the charge really stops
Track DigitalOcean in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
