How to cancel GitHub Copilot
Copilot Pro is cancelled in your GitHub settings under Billing and licensing. You drop to Copilot Free at the end of the billing cycle.
Checked in October 2026 against GitHub Copilot’s own help pages. GitHub Copilot typically costs about €10 a month (€120 a year).
Cancel on the web
- On github.com, open your profile picture → Settings.
- Go to Billing and licensing → Licensing (or Plans and usage).
- In the GitHub Copilot section open Manage subscription and choose to cancel, then confirm.
Open GitHub Docs: Change your Copilot plan ↗
Subscribed in the app?
If you signed up inside the GitHub Copilot app on your phone, Apple or Google bills you, and only they can cancel it.
On an iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap GitHub Copilot, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Not listed there? Apple doesn’t bill you for it — use the steps above. If it’s listed under Expired, it’s already cancelled.
On Android (billed by Google Play)
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Tap GitHub Copilot, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.
Deleting the app on either phone does not cancel anything.
What happens after you cancel
You keep your current features until the billing cycle ends, then move to Copilot Free automatically.
Watch out for
- Copilot from an organisation or enterprise can't be cancelled by you — only disabled.
- Free access as a verified student, teacher or maintainer can't be cancelled.
- Bought in the iOS or Android app? Cancel in the app store.
Make sure the charge really stops
Track GitHub Copilot in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
