How to cancel HBO Max

HBO Max is cancelled on its Subscription page — but first check who bills you: many people pay through Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku or a TV provider.

Checked in October 2026 against HBO Max’s own help pages. HBO Max typically costs about €9.99 a month (€119.88 a year).

Cancel on the web

Sign in at hbomax.com/subscription (in the app: your profile → Subscription; on TVs it's under Settings).
Select Cancel your subscription and confirm.
No Cancel option? The top of the page names who bills you — cancel with them.

Subscribed in the app?

If you signed up inside the HBO Max app on your phone, Apple or Google bills you, and only they can cancel it.

On an iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
Tap Subscriptions.
Tap HBO Max, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.

Not listed there? Apple doesn’t bill you for it — use the steps above. If it’s listed under Expired, it’s already cancelled.

On Android (billed by Google Play)

Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
Tap HBO Max, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.

Deleting the app on either phone does not cancel anything.

Billed by someone else — Amazon, Roku, Samsung, cable and streaming bundles? Cancel in that account, or ask them: HBO Max can’t end a subscription it doesn’t bill.

What happens after you cancel

Access usually continues until the end of the billing period. The confirmation email comes from whoever bills you.

Watch out for

Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date.
Deleting the app doesn't cancel the subscription.
Roku: my.roku.com/subscriptions. Amazon: amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions. Bundles (cable, Hulu, Prime Video Channels…): that provider's account.

HBO Max Premium (4 streams) covers up to 4 people for about €13.99 a month — only for people who live together.

Make sure the charge really stops

Track HBO Max in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
