How to cancel Spotify

Checked in October 2026 against Spotify’s own help pages. Spotify typically costs about €10.99 a month (€131.88 a year).

Cancel on the web

  1. Sign in at spotify.com/account in a browser.
  2. Open Manage your plan.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and confirm on the last screen.
  4. Your account page should now show the date it switches to Spotify Free.

Open spotify.com/account ↗

Billed by someone else — phone and internet providers? Cancel in that account, or ask them: Spotify can’t end a subscription it doesn’t bill.

What happens after you cancel

Premium carries on until your next billing date, then the account turns into a free one — playlists and liked songs stay. Cancelling during a free trial switches you to free immediately.

Refunds

Spotify doesn't refund the current period; you keep what you've paid for. Partner-billed payments are refunded by the partner.

Watch out for

  • A plan member following these steps only leaves the Family or Duo plan — the manager has to cancel the plan itself.
  • Charged after cancelling? If your account shows a switch-to-Free date, the payment went out just before you cancelled and won't repeat. If it shows Free with no date, the Premium is on a different Spotify account.
  • If there's no option to change plan, a phone or internet provider bills you — cancel with them.

Cheaper than cancelling?

  • Duo or Family costs less per person if someone at home pays for Spotify too.
  • Spotify Duo covers up to 2 people for about €16.99 a month — only for people who live together.
  • Spotify Family covers up to 6 people for about €19.99 a month — only for people who live together.

Make sure the charge really stops

Track Spotify in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
