How to cancel Proton VPN

Checked in October 2026 against Proton VPN’s own help pages. Proton VPN typically costs about €9.99 a month (€119.88 a year).

Cancel on the web

  1. Sign in at account.proton.me and open Settings → All settings → Subscription.
  2. Scroll to the cancellation option, click Continue, then Cancel subscription.
  3. Bought in the iPhone or Android app? Cancel in that store.

Open account.proton.me ↗

Subscribed in the app?

If you signed up inside the Proton VPN app on your phone, Apple or Google bills you, and only they can cancel it.

On an iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Proton VPN, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.

Not listed there? Apple doesn’t bill you for it — use the steps above. If it’s listed under Expired, it’s already cancelled.

On Android (billed by Google Play)

  1. Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Proton VPN, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.

Deleting the app on either phone does not cancel anything.

What happens after you cancel

The plan stays active until the end of the billing period and doesn't renew; you then fall back to the free plan.

Refunds

Cancelled within 30 days of the first purchase, the unused part is refunded pro rata; later refunds are at Proton's discretion. Only for purchases made directly with Proton.

Watch out for

  • Switching to another paid plan happens immediately; cancelling to Free waits for the period to end.

Make sure the charge really stops

Track Proton VPN in Cancely and mark it cancelled: the day before it would have renewed, you get a reminder to check your statement — so a cancellation that didn’t take doesn’t cost you another month.
